Brushing between grooms, coat by coat

A few minutes of brushing at home keeps coats happy between grooms. Here’s a simple routine for every type of coat.

Curly coats

Doodles, poodles and friends knot easily. Brush right down to the skin a few times a week with a slicker brush, then check with a comb.

Silky coats

Yorkies, Maltese and Shih Tzus tangle behind the ears and under the legs. A gentle daily brush and comb keeps them smooth.

Short coats

Beagles and Labradors shed. A rubber brush once or twice a week lifts loose hair and gives them a nice shine.

Cats

Long-haired cats need a gentle comb a few times a week. Short-haired cats often enjoy a soft brush as a bit of company time.

Make it a treat

Short sessions, lots of praise and a treat at the end. Brushing should feel like a cuddle, not a chore.
